JADE BIRD LIVE @ OMEARA LONDON - 17TH OCTOBER 2017 - CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS
Jade Bird, the tousled haired, next-gen cool girl, is soon to be everywhere. At just aged 19 her old soul resonates through her realist songwriting. 'Something American' is Jade's debut EP. Covering themes of cheating, heartache and sorrow, the EP is personal and complex, yet written through the words of a modern british teenager; it's fresh and insightful but still classic. Citing strong working women as her long time influences, figures such as her mother and grandmother; as well as musical female role models within the musical subcultures - Loretta Lynn and Patti Smith, for example.
"The title track reverts the image of an isolated suburban housewife in its steely dismissal of those who chase a romanticised ideal (whether the American dream, or a new lover). ‘Good Woman’, meanwhile, is more feel-good but no less furious, rejecting the powerlessness of a cheated spouse and all those who make you feel you don’t live up to an archetype. Elsewhere, a rework of the delta blues standard ‘Grinning In Your Face’ exhibits Jade’s incredibly mature vocal range, whilst EP closer ‘What Am I Here For’ is more fragile, and a tender call for someone who you can trust and find your place in the world alongside."
Jade Bird, whatever's next, count us in.
